A note for readers: Karen's comment is in response to a comment I left on her blog.

Karen,
I can understand that. I'm rather introverted myself. People usually let you know through their body language if they are approachable for a hug. Personal space requirements are different for everyone, and we all need to exercise grace.

Conferences are a difficult places to really connect and discuss controversial issues, but most bloggers are opinionated. Would we be blogging otherwise? I enjoy learning about various ideas (usually). ;) I don't know what was said, but I imagine no personal offense was intended.

Hope you have a nice visit with your husband's friend!

Here's my deal with meeting other bloggers: the people that I have spent time getting to know (through blogs, email, twitter, etc.) I would LOVE to meet them. I feel like I have a head start on getting to know those people. A connection has already been established based on some common ground (homeschooling, politics, or whatever).

The awkwardness came when I was being introduced to people whom I had never "met" online or anywhere else. I'm an introverted introvert. And I'm not a Hugger. ;)

Plus I really dislike it when people are critical of something I love but I don't have a chance to defend it because they are off and running onto something else, assuming that everyone in earshot agrees with them.

I'll have another chance to see how this plays out again this week: we're meeting a blog friend of my husband's in London. :)
