Bibliomania Encouraged by Giveaway

Asking you to discuss books did not help my addiction. Some of you are afflicted worse than I.

Julie Harris Dusting Bookshelves in Her Apartment While Standing Barefoot on Chair

  • Crystal Arcand and Leslie admit to hoarding books.
  • Melissa keeps a list of her stack of duplicates. (Yes, she is that organized!)
  • Angela Winters and Rebecca buy reading copies.
  • Jodi recently maxed out her library card- 50 books at once!
  • Kathy was enticed to leave her first blog comment. (I’m so glad!)
  • Anita thinks there is no such thing as too many books.

TooManyHats and Vicky Shaw think bibliomania is a common condition among homeschool mothers. Here’s the test.

How many of you like this quote from Julie?

I would be the most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.~ Anna Quindlen

I wish I had a bookshelf to send with Julie’s new book and CD. She is the winner of O Holy Night and Focus on the Family’s Radio Theatre, A Christmas Carol!

Thank you for all your entries! Your witty confessions are delightful. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who decorates with books.

That’s an awesoem quote and I wholeheartedly agree. :D We have bookshelves in each bedroom, plus some in the upstairs hall, as well as the living room, the downstairs halls, the kid’s computer room and the dining room.

I figure we use books & shelves as insulation.

and when the libraries around here have a book sale, they see us coming and start setting aside the empty boxes. So we can fill ‘em.

This week I had a bookshelf “fail”. I can’t tell you how sad it is to not only see books plumeting to the floor, but to know that there is now a 12″ gap that can no longer hold ‘em! :)

  • Congrats Julie!

Yes, I agree–one can never have too many book shelves!!!

The problem comes when you cannot FIND the book you KNOW you have! I just found Uncle Tom’s Cabin (for my son’s American Literature course) after two days of looking!!!! The sad part is it was right where I thought it was, but I didn’t look deep enough….

I think part of my addiction to books is the memories they hold for me. I can timeline my life by the books I was reading at certain times, and rereading them can take me right back to those happy memories.

  • We have a 1700 square foot house, and have 17 1/2 full-size bookshelves scattered throughout the house (and the books organized by subject). One in the hallway, three in the music room, four in the master bedroom, one in my daughter’s room, one in my son’s room, and seven and a half in the living room.

Does that make me a bibliophile? Because I’ll GLADLY claim the title! :)

I’m too late for the contest, but I enjoyed reading through all the responses. I usually go crazy buying books at Christmas, but this year we cut the budget way back and I have missed being able to buy as many books! Is it a bad thing for a homeschool mom to admit that I don’t enjoy library books? I want to own them all myself….

Saw your blog on your twitter page and dropped in to take a look.

I agree with Anita, there’s no such thing as too many books!

Our oldest daughter’s bookshelf is FULL of books and there’s still a ton I’d love to get for her. We’ll be starting our youngest’s collection before too long (she’s only 2months right now). Jason and I both admit we are addicted to books and music … those are definitely our weaknesses! We both have a TON of books on our ‘to own’ lists!

  • Got this old post in my inbox again this morning so I thought I’d add a note. I think I have you all beat. I’m such a bibliophile I have taken to making my own books! lol

  • Renae says:

    Anna-Marie,
Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t send this post out again. Feedburner has been doing weird things lately. I’m glad you stopped by though. ;)

And yes, making your own books might be a side effect of bibliomania.
