Live from East Texas, It’s Me!

Have you ever tried to talk to a camera in the middle of the night? It’s not as easy as it looks.

In this take, number 5 or 6, I forgot to mention what my parents did to fuel my love of art. It’s in some video or another, but this one turned out best even with my funny expressions, mutated wall color, and lack of composition.

My parents encouraged my unquenchable desire to make crafts and draw pictures. When I was ten, they enrolled me in an oil painting class. I painted for a few hours every week until I graduated from high school. Many times I wanted to quit. I’m so glad my parents wouldn’t let me.

My home is now graced with paintings of oceans, mountains, and forests. They are much nicer to look at than my monologue. I think I’ll stick to other creative endeavors. Like writing. Yeah, I like writing, too.

You’ve done a great job. I am really enjoying seeing all the bloggers I visit on a regular basis.

I promised my 10 year old, he could film me, so I’m waiting for him to get up ;)

  • April says:

Hey neighbor(ish)! You did great. Will this be a regular feature?

  • Marsha says:

Renae! You are so lovely(!) and articulate and I am sad that you didn’t give us a tour of your artwork. Maybe next time?

Okay, I am still having a hard time believing that you are from East Texas b/c I have family in East Texas and well… they have more twang in their talk! LOL

  • Renae says:

    Christy,
I look forward to seeing you!

    April,
Thanks! And, um, no. I never intended to do this again, but I can probably be persuaded by my wonderful readers. I’m here to serve. :)

    Marsha,
You are so kind. I did try walking around with the camera, but it was nauseating to watch. Perhaps I can get a film crew together for a tour. Or maybe I’ll just post some photos. ;)

And I am not from East Texas. I grew up in Idaho. We’ve only been in Texas for eight years. I try saying ya’ll once in awhile, but I really don’t pull it off well.

  • Dianne says:

That was fun!! It’s so different to see someone moving and talking for real versus just seeing their photos. Glad you decided to play. I’ll try to get one done today as well. Unless I freak out and won’t post it…or don’t know how! LOL!!! :D

  • Renae says:

    Dianne,
You can do it! I’m still freaking out inside, but everyone’s comments are so kind it’s bringing my blood pressure back to a normal level. ;)

It was a challenge to get the video on my blog. I tried to upload it to Picasa Web Albums a couple times. That didn’t work, so I opened a YouTube account. Then the code wouldn’t work. Google rescued me, and here it is. Now I know how to help my son develop his Lego movies. :)

  • Great video! You look great and you seem so nice. I would love to see your art work. We appreciate art at our house, but I am not at all skilled in it.

  • beth says:

Renae! That was wonderful, what a great idea! Thanks for taking the time to share *you* so casually, felt like we were just sitting having a chat. My whole family watched it, and I almost cried! LOL

  • Jendi says:

I came via your tweet to see you live. :)
    It’s great! It’s real. It’s you.

  • Kysha says:

This was so neat. I’m going to try to join in later. You have such a sweet spirit. I really enjoyed your video intro.

  • Great video! It was so neat getting to hear all about you FROM you – my video seems so rushed now in comparison to all of yours. :)

  • Miiko says:

Renae, what a joy to “see” you…only it will be more wonderful to meet you in person. God bless you, ‘neighbor’ (if AL counts :) Miiko

  • Nikowa says:

    YAY Renee! Glad you participated!

I too LOVE books & actually need some more bookshelves! LOL

  • Charity says:

Renae, you are so cute! It was very cool seeing and hearing you after getting to know you online. Now I just have to make it to Texas!

I have a friend from Texas that I meet with weekly for discipleship and my favorite thing about her accent is when she says, “y’all’s” in place of where I would say “your.” It cracks me up. I could never pull that off.

  • Leslie says:

Renae, that was great!!! I enjoyed it so much. Was that Sinatra I heard in the background?

  • I agree with some of the other comments – you should have shown us some of your artwork! It’s been so fun actually “seeing” everyone in their videos. Mine will be up later today after my camcorder’s battery is recharged. :D

  • I loved it!

It’s nice to “meet” you. I’m Darcy, I’m blog over at http://www.lifewithmy3boybarians.com and I’m here from the HOTM meme.

I am loving these videos, and while I’m not sure I’ll get mine up while it’s still Friday, I hope to get it up while it’s still “Friday somewhere”!

Thanks for participating. It’s been so much fun seeing everyone!

    Warmly,
    Darcy

  • Oh wow Renae! It is soooo nice to see you IRL. You are so wonderfully candid! I would love to see a future one of these with your artwork or the great thrifty finds you grab!

Thank you so much for participating!

  • Amy Bayliss says:

    Renae!!!

You so inspire me and I loved being able to put a voice and personality with your writing. You have a gift and I am so glad that you have chosen to share it with us. You are awesome, my friend!

  • Renae says:

Thank you all so much! You know how to make a girl feel better about doing something so scary. I still have occasional twitches and want to erase the whole thing, but your encouragement soothes my nerves. ;)

    Leslie,
It’s quite possible. I listen to Pandora internet radio in the evening. I usually have it set on easy listening. I was unable to use one of the better recordings because of a loud crescendo during a classical piece.

There are so many details to video production I had no idea about!

    Darcy,
Oh, I hope you do! I follow you on Twitter, so please drop a note there when it’s posted.

  • EEEEMommy says:

How fun to see and hear you! :)
You’re so beautiful with no make-up and in your pjs! :)

  • What a pleasure to pop by your blog and “meet you” in person! You’re way more awake late at night than I am, lol. If I had to record myself in the middle of the night, all you’d see and hear would be me snoring :)

    Great job!

  • great job! I know you were nervous, but it really is good to see the people that I read! Thanks!

  • This meme is just so great. It is a different “connection” to actually hear and see someone talk. I finally posted one, too. Y’all were just having too much fun!

I’ve enjoyed getting to know you through Twitter!

  • Go you! I know I would not have the guts to record myself like this – late night or otherwise. Listening to my own voice still freaks me out a bit. It may be silly but there you have it: love of talking does not equal comfort with one’s own voice.

  • Melinda says:

I always love reading your eloquent and touching posts. It was even more fun to see and hear you this time!

  • Lori says:

Renae! How wonderful it was to see AND hear you. Whenever I see a radio personality for the first time, it’s fun to see how differently I imagined them. With written posts we don’t even get the benefit of a voice!

I wanted to thank you for the perceptive addition you made concerning my lying/deception question at the bibleprinciples board. You’ve blessed me in so many ways with your words. Thank you.

    Lori

  • Tina says:

    Hi Renae,

So nice to see and meet you. Thanks so much for coming by my blog. We have a lot of 2nd hand furniture, too. In fact, I just picked up a piece this afternoon :) I think it has great character. BTW, I love your $5 bookcase. We are very much enjoying Colorado & will be sad to go :( However, I know God will have great lessons to teach us in our new home. As well as great people to meet. :) Thanks for the compliment on the polkas.

    Tina

  • Renae says:

I am so blessed by all your comments! Thank you for taking the time to visit, watch, and share.

    Dawn,
    I’m glad you joined in!

    Karen,
I am still chuckling about your comment. I love to talk to, but hearing my voice recorded is not nearly as nice as it would be to hear yours. :D

    Lori,
You are so kind. I always appreciate your insight, as well.

  • Renae – I absolutely hate to hear my own voice recorded, but yours was lovely! How do you look put together that late? I would be frightening!

Thanks for inviting us into your home.

  • Beth says:

    Renae,

I so heart you! You are so sweet. Books, books, books that is so me too. I am so sad now that you don’t live down the street from me. I would love to meet you in real life.

    Sincerely,
Beth from Pages of Our Life

  • Emily says:

oooooh. I LOVED YOURS!!!!!!! You sound like you would be the best friend. You have a gentle voice and a sweet way about you.

and I’m typing this while in my p.j.’s. We’re like twins now.

  • Awesome, you did a great job and are so personable and real…!!

  • keri says:

I would like to see your paintings, I’ll look around for them on your blog!

  • Renae says:

    Keri,
They are not on my blog yet. Guess it’s official. I’ll have to post some on my blog soon. :)

  • sprittibee says:

You rock, sweetie! ;) You are just so brave. Loved the video and the bookshelves and you have to tell me what color that is on your wall. ;) Like it!

  • Renae says:

    Sprittibee,
I don’t know if I’m brave or stubborn. I decided to make a video, so I posted it whether I like it or not. (and it really falls more on the not side)

You really like that color? That’s one reason I enjoy diversity. ;) I don’t like the way the wall color looks in this video at all. It is a much softer color, sort of an olive green. Most of my house is neutral colors, but I really like your bold choices. Maybe someday I’ve be brave and paint something red. :)

:)
