Autumn Craft Collection
Collecting seeds in the woods resulted in imaginative creations.
My son designed a pine cone bird with a sweetgum head.
My daughters made acorn dolls with green hair and silk flower dresses.
On our next adventure, we hope to gather leaves. Last year the leaves rotted brown. If the rusty patinas are missing again, we will make our own color with these crafts:
- Salt Dough Leaf Magnets
- Melted Crayon Stained Glass Window
- Nature Luminary Candle Holders
- Yarn Painting
- Fall Fingerprint Trees
Next on the agenda, haircuts.
What are you creating this season?

How cute! What great crafts! I bet they had a ball making them.
I did some projects on the US Constitution this week. I hope to make a cute little personalized notebook this coming week!
Thanks for sharing those cutesy crafts! :)
Miss Amanda
Those are such adorable creations! You have the cutest kids too : )
Note to Renae. Get the stick ready. The girls will be knocking on your door shortly. That boy is seriously cute.
P.S.
Keep the stick. You’ll need it for next two, also.
Wow, those are great! How creative.
I love the little birdy and doll. They are so cute!
I don’t think we’ll be doing anything craft for the season as we have plenty to keep us more than busy with our regular work.
We did leaf magnets last year though. We used sculpty class and a paint wash. They looked really cool. I did something wrong with the sealant, though, so they never lost their stickiness. Ugh! Maybe we should try the craft again this year.
If you’re interested, I posted about it last year with photos and how we did it.

Those are great shots…new camera? (or renewed interest…like me?)
Amanda,
Yes, they did have fun making them, and now those things are priceless treasures. ;)
Will you post photos of your notebook? I really want to make some paper crafts, too.
Melinda and Charity,
Thanks!
LOTP,
I was thinking more along the lines of a gun. :) I’ve already had a neighbor girl ask me if Bug “likes” her. I said, “Oh, yes. Bug likes all his friends.” She informed me that wasn’t what she meant. Ugh.
JoAnn,
We actually don’t make a lot of crafts. At least, planned crafts anyway. My children come up with all kinds of things on their own. I like to have some things ready though in case we get inspired. :)
Thanks for sharing the link to your leaf magnets. I look forward to checking it out.
Emily,
Thank you. No, my camera isn’t new, but I forget to use it.
Going digital helped me get better shots. Now I click as long as my kids allow and hopefully one or two turn out. :)
Strangely this year we have been too busy for crafts–though the kids have grabbed all sorts of boxes and foam and have designed all sorts of things out of them so I guess it is just me too busy for crafts. :) BTW–this would be a great post for CU.
Great creations! That’s what homeschooling is all about. This summer we did some art in the park crafts with our homeschool group including string art and decorative picture frames.
Way cool! I always love nature crafts and children seem particularly delighted in it. My children were entertained for hours with little windmills we made out of dandelion stems last year.
Hi Renae, Thanks for your response to my question on HSL. I really like your blog! Great pictures, and those crafts are adorable! :) Have a great day! Pam :)
Oh what a wonderful creation they got here! COngratulations to your kids, Renae!
By the way, I did make it to Homeschool Conference! Thanks!
Oh, the cutest kids ever! And those crafts are awesome! So adorable!
Blessings,
Melissa
Great pictures and wonderful crafts! I’ve bookmarked several to do with my boys. Thanks!

What creative children you have! How cute! Thanks for sharing these great ideas.
Your kids are so creative! Those are awesome! :)
I think kids and parents alike prefer these kinds of crafts to the projects that come in a box at the store….and the kids develop their creativity so much more. Great job!
Great crafts! We don’t have an “official” fall here in FL, so we have to create our own through crafts. The beginning of fall and Christmas are usually the only times I’m in the “crafty” mood. LOL! I’ll have to try some of those you recommend. So far we did a tree traced out of the boys’ hands and fore arm then we stuck on the foam stickers of leaves and acorns. Simple but that was just enough for our boys with short attention spans. :-)
Thank you all for your kind comments. I appreciate the time you took to share.
Lisa,
We haven’t done string painting yet, but I think I will enjoy it as much as the children.
Dana,
My kids would enjoy windmills. How did you do it?
Pam,
You are most welcome!
Love the top photo. Very creative!
Renee’,
Please share the result if you do make some of these crafts.
Barbara,
I agree. I do get craft kits on occasion, but we have so enjoyed making things out of nature. We also made mobiles out of sticks. I forgot to include that endeavor.
Summer,
I feel crafty in the winter, too. I’m better at making lists than getting stuff finished though. It’s been three years (almost four) since I set out to make a Christmas stocking for my youngest. I’m getting it out again next week. ;)
Fabulous ideas! Love the acorn dolls. You’re awesome…
Love your kids’ nature creations. What a terrific idea!
Thanks for sharing.

It is pretty easy. If I can find some dandelions, I’ll post pictures. Or maybe I’ll have to use a straw. Same concept. (I think that dandelions are out of season now, if there is such a thing. I haven’t noticed any recently.)
Very sweet, thanks for sharing :)
Bella
Way to go mom!!! What great memories you are making with your kiddos. When mine were little, I did crafts with them all the time. They still talk about it and still love creating things as adults. : )
M.L.
Clever! I love the things kids come up with. I love crafting with my girls…it’s so much fun and inspiring too. :)
You have given me some great ideas to do with my 2 youngest!!
Great nature crafts! We’re going to add them to our Autumn studies. :)
We will be doing some leaf and bark rubbings in our nature journals and we’re going to use black walnut juice for ink. We’ll also be making homemade grapevine and honeysuckle wreaths.
Thanks so much for sharing your creations. :)
Very cool little creatures! I’ll have to try this because my son loves to find treasures in the woods and collect them.
I was hoping some people would share their crafts. I love your bird! Great way to use some of the little treasures we collect when we’re outside.
Thanks for coming to my party! Happy halloween!
Kimba
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! You have a great blog here, I will be back!
