Sleep Teaching Doesn’t Work
While reading Archimedes and the Door of Science to my son, my eyes drooped and words slurred. A question seeped in through the fog about the universe and solar system.
Startled awake by laughter, my answer floated back as I regained consciousness,
You need a password to enter the universe.
Wish I knew the magic word. Coffee has failed me. Do you think sleep will work?

my kids love it when I fall asleep while reading (which is too common I am sorry to admit). They say I say the funniest things! :o)
I guess all those years reading before I went to bed (pre-children) really trained me to relax when reading. Working on untraining myself. ;o)
Ginnie
I think that’s why we often don’t do much reading aloud in the morning. Even though I can be wide awake, reading out loud turns my mouth to mush and I become slurry. Love your post! Good laugh for my morning. :D
lol too much computer on the brain! You definitely need a little vacation…
Ginnie,
I remember when my dad would fall asleep in the chair. I thought it was so funny. Now I’m doing it. Sigh.
Dianne,
I’m fine reading in the morning. It’s the afternoon that gets me. Curling up on the couch after lunch while my little girls nap. It’s quiet and the words so soothing…zzz
Anna-Marie,
Yes, I blame this incident on hosting the Carnival of Homeschooling. I stayed up too late Sunday and Monday nights getting it together. It wouldn’t have been so bad except I got distracted Sunday researching and reading. You know how much I love history. :D
And yes, I need to work on that vacation! ;)
I don’t think I’ve ever done this– but that is definitely amusing!
Oh, that’s funny! I’ve said some real doozies in that half-way place between being asleep and awake, only usually it’s been as I was trying my hardest to STAY AWAKE as I lay there in bed listening to hubby’s talking about work, or something in the wee hours of the night/morning… and next thing I know, I’m jolted awake by his tone changing as he asks me if I’m sleeping, or worst yet, there’ve been times that I’ve said something REALLY weird- in my sleep- in reply to a question he’s just asked me. Funny stuff indeed. Oh, I do try to stay interestedly awake though! I do! LOL I have almost fallen asleep reading aloud to the kids, but not quite, I don’t think. I have gotten pretty good at being able to read-aloud though, while my mind wanders over all sorts of other things. Is that multitasking?
Too funny….my hubby and I often drift off on each other when we try to talk at bedtime or early in the morning….a few weeks ago my dozing hubby muttered that the mouse on the bathroom camputer was wet….I guess we BOTH need more sleep.
LOL! This reminds me of a friend from my college days who dozed off in an early-morning prayer meeting and awoke to hear himself praying, “Oh, Lord, make me like Batman!”
Go get some sleep!
Funny! I’d better not do this with 23 6TH GRADERS ready to pounce on me!! :-)
Haha;) My son LOVES it when I fall asleep while reading;)
Most of the time, I can’t do school on the couch;) It’s too hard to stay awake!
The answer to life the universe and everything is 42, or didn’t you know that already?
I think that probably applies to passwords as well.
