Looks like my 9 year old who thinks he is old enough to make mac-n-cheese. Maybe microwave and mooshy, but nothing I would eat, lol. I hope the waffles were good!
That’s a great pic- what a cute lil’ guy you got there, and already a great kitchen helper. How cool is that?
My dd, who considers herself to be Rachel Ray Jr., walked into the kitchen the other night as I was starting some bacon on the skillet, and she said “You ARE starting with a cold pan, aren’t you- so the bacon will stay flat and pretty?”
Nothing motivates my kids to cook like being allowed to use knives. Their favorite thing to do is make salads and veggie/antipasto snack trays.
Thank you all so much! The comments made me smile.
Heather,
It is a blessing to be able to encourage independence. He did have fun making breakfast for everyone and even gave his baby sister the first waffle. I love the harmony here, when it exists. :)
Emily,
I’ll try to post less appetizing things from now on. How does mud soup sprinkled with dandelions sound? That is what my little girls enjoy cooking.
Sunniemom,
Pretty bacon is very important! I’m sure Rachel Ray Jr. couldn’t possibly eat it if it wasn’t. ;)
And my son is a bit scared of knives. He’s very cautious, which has helped us to avoid broken bones and trips to the emergency room, so I’m grateful. But we do have to encourage him to take risks.
Oh! I can’t wait for the day when my kiddos can make those for us! I hope they were yummy!

Looks yummy…he did a good job!!
Looks like he had fun cooking.
I have one that can cook a little bit. BUt I will be so excited when she can make a whole meal and I don’t have to cook (for the most part).
Hi future wife will love you for teaching him how to cook :-)

Yum, that waffle made me hungry! Good for your lad for taking on a new task, especially cooking!
Looks like he did just fine!
So sweet!
Thank you all. We had waffles again yesterday morning. :) He also made macaroni and cheese for lunch. It’s time to get out the recipe books!
Good for him! My middle daughter loves to cook. I wish I could get the oldest into it.
Very nice blog. Lots of info.
