Welcome to Life Nurturing Education

I introduced some of my friends to blogs. This conversation is dedicated to them. I am honored that you read my words.

Ostade, Mother Holding her Child in a Doorway, 1667

Some of you may never visit me in Texas, but I want to show you around my home on the internet. Please sit down, and relax the best you can between the occasional accidents and emergencies only Mommy can fix. I’ll make you some tea and ignore the chores for while. I hope you enjoy the visit.

What is a blog anyway?

Blog is short for web log. It is a kind of internet diary, but blogs are not limited to personal journals. There are blogs on all varieties of subjects; politics, photography, scrapbooking, cooking, or shopping. Life Nurturing Education focuses on homeschool and all that entails.

How do I leave comments?

One of my favorite parts of blogging is hearing from my readers, so please join the discussion. At the bottom of each post there is a link that says Comments. Click on the link, scroll to the bottom if other comments are there, fill in the blanks, and submit your reply.

I like to respond and usually do so in my comment box, so be sure to check back. It is easy to see if new comments have been added by looking under Recent Comments.

How will I know when you’ve posted something new?

The option to Subscribe is one of the first things listed. Choose whether you would like to receive updates by email or in a reader. Simply follow the instructions from there. (If you are new to blogs, most likely, you will not have a reader. For more information about readers, feel free to ask.)

What is all the stuff in your sidebar?

My sidebar contains lots of links. Many are to blogs, a couple are to my Affiliates, a few are to blog Networks, and one is to my sponsor, BlogHer.

Would you like to spotlight anything else?

Since the template I’m using doesn’t have a home tab, just click on Life Nurturing Education at the very top to view the most recent entries. To access older posts use the Categories section of my sidebar.

Do you have other questions? Did I miss anything?

Thank you for visiting and come back soon!

This was an informative post, as I am new to the blogging world. Only a few days at it and already I have found so many wonderful blogs, I fear I may get addicted! I really enjoyed reading your recent posts and hope to be a regular reader!

    Rain,
Thank you so much for visiting. I am glad this was helpful to you.

Welcome to the blogging world! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. My email address is on my About page. I am not an expert, but I’ve figured out a few things by asking lots of questions. :)

Nice introduction, Renae. You will have all your friends blogging in no time…then either they will be as enthusiastic as you when you start talking about stats and stuff, or they will all be too busy blogging to talk to you in person. : )

What an awesome post. I think I will forward people to your blog to read this post whenever they question what is a blog . . . .Great post!

    Dana,
Thanks for the laugh! You may be right. I better be careful! As much as I enjoy connecting with people on the internet, it is not the same as getting together to visit.

    Emily,
Thank you very much. I never talk about blogging (yeah, right!), but once or twice, when it the subject has slipped out, a couple of friends asked me how to leave comments. I thought this would be helpful.

  • I just read your comment over at Principled Discovery and LOVED your summation of why we do upper level math.

“We basically all ended up agreeing that it is a discipline that develops the mind. It can be used to strengthen character, but it isn’t the only thing that will.”

That’s so spot on! I am frustrated w/ the “I’ll never use it in the real world” argument. It just makes no sense. Sometimes even my own husband thinks this way. i.e. (why teach gobs of poetry?)

Our brain is a muscle that needs to be exercised and learning is the way to do it. But you don’t just use your biceps. How about your quads? or lats? HOW do you get them worked out and pumped up? You have to strategically work them out, ’cause in the everyday life….we don’t really work them out.

Oh, now I’m rambling. Just wanted to say how much I agreed with your comment.

  • Hello there. I saw you visited my blog and joined my bloglog community. I know you commented on my sister, Amanda’s blog sometimes and also on my mom’s, so I know you a little. ;)

I thought I would stop by and say hello.

    Blessings!
    Jocelyn

    Emily,
You made so many great points. Brains need to be used, especially when children are growing. And what is the “real” world anyway? Learning to think logically helps in decision making, relationships, work, etc.

Thank you so much for sharing. You really encouraged me to think through this idea more.

This was a wonderful post and very informative to both new and old readers.

  • Great blogging intro! About 99.9% of my friends IRL either don’t know what a blog is, or don’t care! I’ll have to send them here. Enjoy your weekend!

  • Renae says:

    Hadias,
    Thank you.

    Jennifer,
Most of my friends and family didn’t know what a blog was until I started. I have never been a quiet person (unless I’m in a crowd), so they couldn’t help but hear about it. :)
